AutismOne, the world’s largest and most comprehensive autism conference, is delighted to announce a medical cannabis track for parents and professionals. The conference will be held May 25–29, 2016, at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel, Rosemont, IL.

Of tremendous interest is a scheduled presentation by Dr. Judy Mikovits titled “Can Cannabis Cure Autism? Autism is an umbrella term covering a collection of chronic comorbid conditions, including abnormal gut flora, allergies, seizures, arthritis neurological sequelae, asthma, autonomic dysfunction, chronic rubella arthritis, colitis, ear infections, eczema, immune dysregulation, incontinence, leaky gut, Lyme disease, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), sleep disorders, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, PANDAS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcus), rheumatoid arthritis, severe headaches/migraines, and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE).”

As Professor Raphael Mechoulam has noted, “It is believed that because endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout the brain and in every major organ of the body is one reason that cannabis treats so many varied illnesses. Countering the chronic comorbid conditions in children with autism, are cannabinoid’s medical properties, which include acting as an antiemetic, anticonvulsant, antipsychotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-tumoral, anxiolytic, and anti-depressant.

“It’s an exciting time,” continued Arranga. “For decades, truthful and accurate information about cannabis and autism has been the exception. Now, finally, the medical benefits of cannabis are being recognized, and children with autism are getting better. Ironically, two communities that were written off are coming together to help each other.”

Weedman proves his freedom

The Weedman did it.Make no mistake about it: The   victory    Ed Forchion — the NJWEEDMAN — enjoyed on Thursday in the Burlington County Courthouse certainly sets the stage for other marijuana users to upend the unjust New Jersey (and national) marijuana laws.I’ll get to the “unjust” part later, pharm but first, a rehash (pun intended) of the facts: Forchion was pulled over with a pound of pot in his car and $2,000 in cash. According to the state laws, he was facing a mandatory   minimum    of three years in jail and a $25,000 fine for distribution. Forchion, who has been fighting the marijuana laws in this state (and nation) for   over    15 years, claimed it was for his own purposes. Medicinal, to be clear. The county prosecutor pointed out during the trial that Forchion had enough grass to roll 6,000 joints, which would seem to poke a hole in the “personal use” defense. I mean, how many joints could Forchion smoke in a day? Two? Five? Ten? (Actually, I don’t want to know.)Forchion was seeking a hung jury, hoping to get a pothead-friendly juror to “nullify” the law. (Quick and dirty   “jury nullification”    definition: The jury decides the law is unjust, so they acquit.)But what Forchion got was something much more than one person fighting for him. He got 12. A unanimous jury verdict, 12-0.

Hemp was, and can be, an integral crop to the survival and growth of the United States for medical, industrial and food uses.

In 1762, “Virginia awarded bounties for hempculture and manufacture, and imposed penalties upon those who did not produce it.”

Three years later, from George Washington’s Diary…

May 12-13 1765: “Sowed Hemp at Muddy hole by Swamp.”
August 7, 1765: “–began to separate (sic) the Male from the Female Hemp at Do-rather too late.”

 

The Drug Czar’s False Statement About Marijuana and Hemp Should Be a Bigger Scandal

Unfortunately, while President Obama’s misleading claims about medical marijuana policy have generated considerable attention, the drug czar’s recent comments about hemp have gone almost entirely unnoticed and unreported. This is his entire response right here (which apparently took many months to prepare):

The drug czar oddly begins by declaring that, “federal law prohibits human consumption, distribution, and possession of Schedule I controlled substances,” which is simply irrelevant in the context of hemp. Hemp isn’t a Schedule I controlled substance and it can legally be consumed, distributed and possessed in a variety of forms. The soap I use every day is made of it, and you can buy hemp foods at any grocery store without fear of arrest. The drug czar’s failure to even acknowledge this basic fact makes his statement terribly confusing in its entirety, but it actually gets worse.

The central issue here, and the whole point of the petition, is that the DEA won’t let American farmers grow hemp for the purpose of manufacturing the various legal products that are made from it. As a result, all hemp products in the U.S. are made from imported hemp, eliminating a lucrative economic opportunity for American farmers. Instead of explaining why that is, the drug czar persists in blurring the distinction between hemp and pot, even implying that hemp can get you high:

While most of the THC in cannabis plants is concentrated in the marijuana, all parts of the plant, including hemp, can contain THC, a Schedule I controlled substance.

Here, the drug czar implies that hemp and marijuana are separate parts of the same individual plant, as if to suggest that allowing hemp cultivation would require that psychoactive marijuana be produced as a byproduct. This is false. Though both are types of cannabis, the hemp plant is genetically different from marijuana plants that produce the drug. In other words, the plant that’s used to make soap won’t get you high, and the plant that gets you high isn’t used to make soap. This is basic stuff, but the drug czar’s statement mischaracterizes it to the point of complete incoherence.

Replace ignorant prosecutors and judges By educated and rational people

The law is wrong to not “allow” Mr. Forchion a medical defense, the fact still hangs over everyone’s head, that Cannabis (marijuana) is a plant and has healing properties,which can not be denied by an ignorant prosecutor or judge, this is ridiculous.  Cannabis is a G*D given plant, get these ignorant prosecutors and judges replaced by educated and rational people.  Mr. Forchion is one of the last of the true Americans who stand up for their rights!  GO WEEDMAN!
